The award is presented each year to an active DACE participant who makes a difference in helping continuing education flourish in the Mid-Hudson area.
“It’s thrilling to be recognized by your peers,” claimed Carrig, who was nominated by her supervisor Elizabeth Hayter, assistant director of Adult & Continuing Education, and Charlie Gatje, coordinator of Adult, Occupational & Continuing Education at Dutchess BOCES.
DACE is a Mid-Hudson Valley organization that provides cooperative publication and advertising services to various schools throughout the area.
“There’s a nice spirit of cooperation between the DACE members,” said Carrig.
Throughout her career, Carrig has been an active member of DACE and a key player in adult and continuing education for both Ulster and Dutchess counties. She was recognized for her tremendous efforts at the DACE annual dinner this spring.
“Virginia’s been involved in adult education for over ten years,” stated Hayter. “She deserved this award for all the hard work she has done throughout the years.”
As program coordinator for Ulster BOCES, Carrig is not only responsible for making the adult and continuing education programs run smoothly, but also for researching new courses and opportunities for students.
“I do all the little details to make a course work,’’ said Carrig.
As the local DACE representative for the New York State Adult Education Association, Carrig hopes to continue to serve and make advancements in adult and continuing education in the Mid-Hudson region.
“I’d like to see that the Ulster BOCES Adult Career Education Center stays on the cutting edge of what the community needs,” said Carrig.
