Ulster BOCES Assistant Director of Adult Education
Honored by YWCA
Ulster BOCES’ very own Elizabeth Hayter, Hayter, who is the assistant director of Adult Education at Ulster BOCES and is being honored
for her outstanding contribution to adult education, has been a teacher and administrator of programs
for business professionals and adults for the past 15 years. She says she was “surprised and humbled”
at being chosen as one of this year’s honorees in the YWCA of Ulster County’s Tribute to Women 2004.
Hayter truly loves what she does and believes in the power of adult education. She says she made the move into administration to help mentor teachers so they could bring a more motivated atmosphere to their students in the classroom. “I want teachers to challenge their students, inspire them, and help them see they really can do it in the end. And when the students succeed, it’s very rewarding.”
Explains Hayter, “Adult Education is three things. It’s career education, the things that are a career choice for someone. It’s literacy education, for people to grow and to make their lives better. And then there’s continuing education, the fun stuff for community members to do. We have some families who have done all three and right here at Ulster BOCES! I believe Adult Education is the ability to change someone’s life for the better. I am very proud and happy to be part of that,” says Hayter.
“Through her dedication, talents, and efforts, Liz Hayter has strengthened and increased programs for women and families in the adult community in Ulster County,” says Howard Korn, director of Career & Technical Education and Adult Services. “Ulster BOCES is very proud of her accomplishments and privileged to have her on staff.”
