Ulster BOCES’ Phys Ed Instructor Honored with Amazing People Award
Ulster BOCES instructor Roy T. Speedling has been honored by the Aquatic Section of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance with its Amazing People Award. Roy is a nationally Certified Adapted Physical Educator who has worked for Ulster BOCES for the past 25 years. During that time Roy has been able to secure pools throughout the county to provide aquatic programs for the disabled.

He is an American Red Cross instructor and instructor trainer in Water Safety and Lifeguard Training, has volunteered as a Special Olympic swimming coach and trainer, and is a nationally certified Teacher of Adapted Aquatics – Aquatic Council of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. Roy has also published articles on inclusion and mainstreaming in swimming.

“Coach Roy is very deserving of this award given his commitment and devotion to serving students with disabilities. He is respected by his colleagues and has a strong network of support across New York State. We are thrilled to have Coach Roy on our staff and commend him on a job well done,” commented Marlene Anderson-Butler, director of Special and Alternative Education at Ulster BOCES.

NYS AHPERD was founded in 1924 as a member service organization dedicated to the professional development of health, physical education, and dance teachers and recreation specialists. It is collective structure of interrelated professionals whose mission is to provide the environment for professional growth and enrichment for the membership. The ultimate goal is to provide quality health, physical education, recreation, and dance programs for the children of New York State.
