Ulster BOCES Nursing Students Participate in Community Mock Interviews

Nursing students from Ulster BOCES School of Practical Nursing recently had the unique opportunity to prepare for their future careers by participating in a mock interview session with representatives from area healthcare facilities. The future nurses attended “interviews” conducted at The Seasons Restaurant, a training facility located at the Ulster BOCES Career & Technical Center in Port Ewen. A number of the interviewees were even recruited during this first-time event.

The mock interviews afforded students the opportunity to experience what real-life job interviews with potential employers would entail, as well as learn about the needs and working guidelines to various area healthcare facilities including Kingston, Benedictine, and Ellenville Regional Hospitals; Ten Broeck Commons; Ethan Allen Medical Staffing; Home Health Care and Companion Agency, Inc.; and numerous other Ulster County nursing homes.

“It was a pleasure to attend the Ulster BOCES Mock Interview Day. All of the students seemed prepared and motivated to take advantage of this invaluable opportunity,” says William Boone, director of business development at the Home Health Care & Companion Agency, Inc. Boone, along with co-workers Mary Polhemus and Krystal Glaser, spoke to the LPN class as a whole. As a result of the mock interviews, four students have applied for positions at the healthcare agency. One person has been hired and the remaining three are still completing the application process. “I found the class to be very bright and professional,” notes Boone.

“I was so proud of the students and how they presented themselves,” says Dianne Sleight, healthcare coordinator for the Ulster BOCES Center for Adult Education. “Some of them did so well they have already been offered positions. It was truly a busy and exciting day for our students.”
