People working in this field provide healthcare and support services to address the physical, mental, and emotional needs of their clients. They apply scientific, technical, social, and interpersonal skills to diagnose and treat illnesses, document care, provide a therapeutic environment, and maintain the health of their clients.
LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSING (LPN)
This two-year program prepares students for a career as a Licensed
Practical Nurse (LPN). In addition to classroom study and practical
training in a state-of-the-art laboratory facility, students participate in supervised, hands-on care in several healthcare facilities throughout the community. Seniors are able to register half-time or full-time. Half-time students finish their first year of LPN training as seniors and their second year after graduating high school. Full-time students take the entire course during their senior year and are able to complete English and Social Studies 12 at the Career & Technical Center.

Educational Opportunities
Successful completion of this program qualifies students to take the Licensing Examination for Practical Nursing, as well as earn up to 24 college credits toward certification as a Registered Nurse (RN).

NURSING ASSISTANT/EKG ASSISTANT
Learn to care for the physically injured, disabled, or infirm who are con-
fined to hospitals, nursing homes, or residential care facilities. Nursing
Assistants work under the supervision of nursing and medical staff. Their duties include serving meals; making beds; feeding, bathing, and dressing patients; providing skin care; taking temperatures; checking pulse and respiration levels; and assisting patients to get in and out of bed. Students are also instructed in the administration of an EKG and have the opportunity to demonstrate this skill in a hospital or long-term care facility setting.

Educational Opportunities
The Career & Technical Center offers both part-time and full-time Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) programs, as well as a Surgical Technician and Phlebotomy program. Many colleges offer Registered Nurse (RN) programs and other health related occupations, including physical therapy, recreational therapy, and x-ray technician.
