New Visions Careers Exploration

People working in this field provide healthcare and support services to address the physical, mental, and emotional needs of their clients. They apply scientific, technical, social, and interpersonal skills to diagnose and treat illnesses, document care, provide a therapeutic environment, and maintain the health of their clients.

EDUCATION CAREERS EXPLORATION
The New Visions Education Careers Exploration program allows stu- dents to work side-by-side with teachers and educational administra- tors. Students enrolled in this one-year program are placed in childcare, preschool, elementary, middle, and high school classes, as well as in post-secondary educational programs throughout Ulster County where exemplary practices of instruction take place. Students become knowledgeable about employment opportunities in the field of education. English and social studies are taught through an interdisciplinary curriculum.

HEALTH CAREERS EXPLORATION
The New Visions Health Careers Exploration program is an opportunity for college-bound high school seniors to make informed career choices by working closely with doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other health professionals as they are engaged in real life experiences. Students also participate in an academically challenging curriculum related to the field of health and utilize a variety of internship opportunities.

Some of the internship opportunities include operating and delivery rooms, administrative offices, radiology departments, emergency rooms, veterinary offices, chiropractic offices, and dentist offices, as well as forensic crime labs.

The program is designed to help students learn about both clinical and non-clinical healthcare careers. English and social studies are taught through an interdisciplinary curriculum.

COMMUNICATIONS AND JOURNALISM CAREERS EXPLORATION
Explore a career in communications and journalism with a year of exciting work experiences. Three days each week, students spend half of their school day working and learning alongside communication professionals in fields such as journalism, television, and radio.

Students intern at places like the Daily Freeman and WDST, work with a community theater, or produce a television documentary.

English and social studies are taught through an interdisciplinary curriculum.

LEGAL CAREERS EXPLORATION
The New Visions Legal Careers Exploration program places high performing seniors in challenging internship experiences in a wide range of legal professions.

Three days each week, students spend half of their school day working with and learning from professionals in Assistant District Attorneys’ offices, Public Defenders’ offices, private attorneys’ offices, as well as city and county courts.

English and social studies are taught through an interdisciplinary curriculum.

PERFORMING & VISUAL ARTS
The New Visions Program in Performing & Visual Arts is offered in partnership with Mill Street Loft, a Hudson Valley multi-arts center. The program provides high school seniors with the opportunity to explore the rich range of career options in the performing and visual arts. Students work side-by-side with professional artists, learning first-hand what it takes to build a career in the arts as they explore acting, scenic design, lighting, costuming, production, playwriting, photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, and more. Through studio workshops, classroom instruction, field trips, and on-going internships with local artists and related businesses, students gain valuable skills, experience, and real-world perspective on the arts. Students will work on independent and collaborative projects in a wide array of artistic disciplines and will participate in New Visions drama productions and art exhibits.
