Career and Technical Education

Trades & Industrial

People working in this field use technical knowledge and skills to design, diagnose, construct, maintain, and repair. They provide practical hands-on skills, as well as diagnostic skills, to create and repair homes, automobiles, and industrial construction.

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY
Get on the right track for a career in Automotive Technology with Ulster BOCES. This Career & Technical Center program, certified by the
National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation, Inc. (NATEF), provides an excellent foundation for students to either attend automotive college or directly enter the automotive industry. The program is designed for students who have little or no knowledge/experience in the automotive field, but who are eager to learn. The course covers safety, automotive tools and fasteners, seals and bearings, basic engine design, construction, and principles. Instruction is concentrated in the four major NATEF areas:

  • Steering and Suspension
  • Brakes
  • Electrical and Electronic
  • Engine Performance
Additionally, the Automotive Technology program participates in the AYES (Automotive Youth Educational System) program. AYES is a dynamic partnership among participating automotive manufacturers, participating local dealers, and selected local high schools/career and technical schools. The goal of the program is to encourage bright students with good mechanical aptitudes to pursue careers in the ever-changing field of automotive technology and to prepare them for entry-level positions or challenging academic options.
