This summer, join the Mid-Hudson Bilingual/ESL Technical Assistance Center (BETAC), located at Ulster BOCES, for a one-week intensive Spanish course tailored to the needs of public school educators, including teachers, guidance counselors, school social workers, and other school personnel.

If you think it is hot outside, just wait until you feel the heat that workshop instructor Gonzalo Quintana, a well known teacher of Spanish for over thirty years, emits as he leads participants through lively activities. Be prepared for an unforgettable learning experience as Quintana teaches in the immersion approach and custom designs each course to meet the needs of the group.

Two separate sessions are being offered. Course I is designed for educators who work with Spanish speaking students and are beginning to learn the language. Participants will gain skills in communicating with students and parents in a school setting. Through role-play, songs, and games, participants will learn the real-life communicative activities that facilitate conversation and maximize retention. Course I will be held July 22-26.

Course II is designed for educators who wish to refine or expand their Spanish proficiency. Participants will enjoy hands-on, interactive activities that will increase their conversational and writing skills. Structure and vocabulary will be presented according to group and individual needs. Course II runs from July 29-August 2.

Both courses will be held at the Ulster BOCES Technology Learning Center on Route 32 in New Paltz from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM. The registration fee is $125 PER course. For further information, please contact the Mid-Hudson BETAC by July 15 at 845-255-1402 or email rhorwitz@mhric.org or kfox@mhric.org.

The Mid-Hudson Bilingual/ESL Technical Assistance Center at Ulster BOCES provides resources for designing, implementing, and enhancing educational services for pupils with limited English proficiency. BETAC services are funded by a grant from the New York State Education Department Office of Bilingual Education. End of story
