(845) 255-1450 xt.1301 Anti-Hate and Harassment Conference to be Held in Albany "It's Not Just Another Conference, It's An Experience"

The New York State Center for School Safety (NYSCSS), in partnership with Governor Pataki's Project SAVE legislation and the New York State Education Department, will host its first statewide Anti-Hate and Harassment Conference at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center in Albany, New York on January 21-22, 2002. The conference is expected to draw more than 150 participants, including students, school personnel, community members, families, law enforcement officers, and faith-based groups throughout New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut.

A host of nationally recognized experts will participate, including internationally renowned motivational speaker Les Brown of Washington D.C. Les Brown is one of the nation’s leading authorities in understanding and stimulating human potential. Utilizing powerful delivery and newly emerging insights, Brown will teach, inspire, and channel the audience to new levels of achievement.

The theme of the conference is “Get Rid of Your RAGS” - Racism, Ageism, Genderism, Sexism, and all the other “isms.” The conference will focus heavily on the personal perceptions, images, and experiences that we all have, in addition to the impact of these “isms” on our schools, communities, and individual lives.

Conference coordinator Felicia Watson urges everyone to attend the conference and become part of the solution.

“Through this conference, the New York State Center for School Safety will take a stand with schools, communities, law enforcement officers, faith-based organizations, parents, and youth to get rid of our RAGS!” states Watson.

Watson is also enthusiastic about the conference’s format. The setting will be a highly experiential forum, where dialogue can occur without barriers.

“It is our hope that within this forum we can help one another to gain a greater understanding and increased awareness that each of us plays a significant role in eliminating the “isms” from our society,” she states.
