General Motors Donates 12 Car Engines to the Ulster BOCES Career & Technical Education Center
GM revved up the Automotive Repair program at the Ulster BOCES Career & Technical Education Center in Port Ewen recently when it donated 12 new 3.4 litre, 6-cylinder engines for the students to gain hands-on, real life experience.
The Automotive Repair shop at the Career & Technical Center is a state-of-the-art facility for training student car mechanics in the latest automotive technologies. The hands-on learning lab and instructional program is nationally certified by the National Automotive Technical Education Foundation (NATEF).
“It is extremely important for the students to have access to up-to-date cars and car parts to work on,” Automotive Repair instructor Jamie Lucks pointed out. In addition to helping to arrange for donations from the manufacturers themselves, he added that car dealerships throughout the area work with the Ulster BOCES program to ensure that students are being trained in cutting edge methods and technologies.
“Our students not only learn on-site in our facilities, we have cooperative arrangements with various car dealerships,” said Lucks. “There, the students have a wide variety of internships and other learning opportunities available to them for training. Often, they are hired by the dealerships right out of school, as well.”
