Minds In Motion Workshop Offered at Ulster BOCES
Ulster BOCES Arts-In-Education, in association with the Special Education Training & Resource Center (SETRC), is offering a workshop on April 17, May 1, and May 8 entitled “Making the Link Between Creative Movement and Nuts & Bolts Curriculum in the K-5 Classroom.” The sessions will be held at the Ulster BOCES Conference Center in New Paltz and are open to K-5 regular and special education teachers, as well as art and bilingual educators.
Susan Griss will lead the workshops. Griss is a highly experienced movement specialist and dance educator. She serves on the faculty of SUNY New Paltz, Bank Street College of Education, Lesley University, and the education department of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Griss has taught movement to children in the public school system for over 20 years and is the author of Minds In Motion: A Kinesthetic Approach to Teaching Elementary School Curriculum.
“Movement is an indispensable part of learning and thinking,” said Griss. “A kinesthetic teaching model encourages young students to throw their whole bodies into the process of learning.”
The participatory workshops will train educators how to use creative movement, dance, and kinesthetic activities to teach academic curriculum designated in the New York State Learning Standards.
The workshops are free for those districts who are members of the Arts-In-Education Co-Ser and cost only $30 for non-member educators. For further information or to register, call Kim Kreuscher at 255–1402, ext. 280, or E-Mail:kkreusch@mhric.org. Don’t wait to register! The registration deadline is April 10, so call today!
