At the ceremony, approximately 535 candidates representing over 30 career fields celebrated the completion of requirements to become skilled professionals in the workforce. Over 330 high school and 205 adult students participated in the ceremony. In addition, over $13,000 in scholarships were awarded.
Anthony Marmo, president of the Kingston Hospital, was the guest speaker at the ceremony and advised the graduates to laugh frequently; take care of their physical, emotional, and spiritual selves; and take time to build relationships with family, parents, and friends. “Be a dreamer,” Marmo implored. “Be a dream maker. Be proud of yourself; you have really achieved something. Now go out and make something happen. Behind every great achievement is a dreamer of great dreams. Please go out and be a dreamer.”
District Superintendent Martin Ruglis, Career & Technical Center Director Howard Korn, and Principal Gary Suraci also addressed the candidates and presented them with Career & Technical Center Achievement Certificates.
“Each year, the Ulster BOCES Career & Technical Center helps prepare hundreds of students to enter college or the workforce with top-notch skills, as well as a solid foundation in the essential reading, writing, mathematical, and problem-solving skills that are needed to compete in today’s economy. Our students are ready for their futures,” said Korn.
