A retired project manager for IBM, Hurld now considers himself “semi-retired” and presently works as a part-time Information Technology contractor for IBM in Poughkeepsie. “I like playing with PCs,” he admits. “And I’ve been fortunate to turn my hobby into a part-time job.”
As an Ulster BOCES Board member, one item Hurld would like to help solve is the growing space shortage the institution is faced with. “Space has become a critical issue,” he states. “It is a big challenge.”
Hurld is a big advocate of career and technical education and believes in the many services that Ulster BOCES has to offer. He has many years of experience in three major components: career and technical education, adult and continuing education, and special education. “I myself am a product of a vocational education,” he proudly claims. “I attended a vocational trade school. I am also a product of a career and technical education having earned my degree through an adult education program.”
Hurld, a father of three, is also supportive of the special education programs at Ulster BOCES. “I have a child who received special education instruction in reading through her home school in the Onteora Central School District. Therefore, I am familiar with and extremely supportive of all the aspects of a BOCES.”
Hurld looks forward to working with the other members of the Board to provide meaningful educational programs for all of Ulster County’s residents.
