The New York State Board of Regents has recognized technical communication as an essential life skill and a technical communication component is now included in the Grade 11 Regents English Exam. At the Institute, the five-member TCIT faculty demonstrated for participants how to prepare students for this component of the Regents Exams, as well as how to integrate technical communication into the existing curriculum for both middle and high schools.
“The TCIT offered three days of intensive learning for teachers and school administrators who are integrating technical communication into their school’s curriculum,” says McLoone, who was one of 17 teachers from across New York State to participate in this Institute.
The Ulster BOCES Career & Technical Center is a participant in the national High Schools That Work (HSTW) program. Techniques presented at the Technical Communications Institute for Teachers support the 10 Key Practices essential to the High Schools That Work program and will support Ulster BOCES in their constant search of learning new and innovative ideas to present to their students.
