Don’t wait to begin exploring answers to this question! A FREE all-day workshop on August 16 from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM at the Ulster BOCES Conference Center on Route 32 North in New Paltz is designed to help students who are receiving Special Education services and their parents begin thinking about their futures early, before they are seniors in high school. Students will create visual maps of their hopes, dreams, and goals. They will also create transition plans to use their talents and resources towards pursuing college, the workforce, or internships.

At the event, a skilled team of presenters will use dynamic, hands-on, participation to get parents and students (ages 13 and older who are receiving Special Education services) working together to understand the legal and personal issues concerning the transition from high school to the next step of life’s journey.

Parents…Are you uncertain of your child’s graduation requirements? Do you want to know about the safety net that may be available for your child? Would you like to know what impact the New York State Learning Standards will have on him or her? Does your child need a transition plan for his/her journey from high school to adult life? If you answered “YES” to any of these questions, then you will want to come to this workshop so you will be prepared to make decisions, plan, and advocate for your child’s future.

Students…What are you doing after graduation? Where are you headed? Do you have a plan? If you answered “I DON’T KNOW” to any of these questions, then you would benefit from participating in this event. Take this opportunity to work side-by-side with your parents and peers to imagine your future the way you would like it to look and develop a transition plan to help you get there.

To register for this workshop please call or e-mail Jean Scarangella, 255-1402 ext. 250. Pre-registration is required. End of story
