A Day of Reflection, Connection, and Future-Focused Learning

A Day of Reflection, Connection, and Future-Focused Learning

On Friday, May 8, the entire Ulster BOCES community gathered at the Career Academies at iPark 87 for a special Superintendent’s Conference Day centered on reflection, connection, and the future of learning.

Staff from across the organization, including educators, clerical teams, food services, buildings and grounds, administrators, and various support and operational staff—came together to engage in collaborative conversations and planning connected to the New York State Portrait of a Graduate.

The day offered an opportunity to reflect on a fundamental question: What knowledge, skills, mindsets, and experiences do students need to thrive in the future?

More importantly, it reinforced the belief that answering that question is the responsibility of an entire educational community.

Held at the Career Academies at iPark 87, the gathering reflected both the innovation and the human-centered values that continue to shape Ulster BOCES’ work. Through reflection, dialogue, and shared learning, staff collectively explored how schools and organizations can create deeper, more meaningful learning experiences rooted in belonging, purpose, and real-world readiness.

More than a conference day about NY Inspires and the Portrait of a Graduate, the event embraced the North Star Educational Commitments and brought them to life. It was an experience that was collaborative, future-focused, and united by a shared commitment to students and community.
