New Ulster BOCES Class to Benefit Aspiring Dental Assistants

Anyone currently employed in a dental or orthodontic office who needs to meet State educational eligibility requirements for licensure can take advantage of another great career-boosting opportunity from the Ulster BOCES Adult Career Education Center this September.

The new “Registered Dental Assistant” program begins on September 12 and runs through April 3, 2023. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 6:30-8:30 PM,  at the Ulster BOCES Adult Career Education Center in Port Ewen, with some sessions being held virtually.

Students will be taught through lecture and skills demonstrations on the finer points of sitting chair-side to their dental professional. A total of 19 subject areas will be discussed in a peer-review atmosphere, with proctored exams given weekly. Some topics reviewed include: Intro to Dentistry, Dental Material, Instruments, Oral Hygiene, Oral Surgery, Orthodontia, Radiology, and more. Students must pass 16 exams and accrue at least 1,000 hours of relevant work experience under a licensed dentist's direct personal supervision while in the program in order to complete this course.

Program prerequisites include current employment in a dental or orthodontic office, proof of high school, GED, or TASC diploma, and a registration appointment. The cost of the class is $1,500. For more information, or to make a registration appointment, contact Michelle Combs at mcombs@ulsterboces.org, or call (845) 331-5050, ext. 2262.
