Statewide Leadership Effort Continues at OCM BOCES with Portrait of a Graduate Focus

Ulster BOCES and its partners, New Tech Network, hit the road in January, bringing together educators from across New York to advance the implementation of the New York State Portrait of a Graduate framework.

Held at the OCM BOCES Main Campus in Liverpool, approximately 65 educators representing 14 different BOCES participated in the session, highlighting a strong, shared commitment to shaping the future of education across the state.

The workshop focused on supporting school leaders in translating the Portrait of a Graduate framework into meaningful practice within their districts and programs. First introduced in 2024, the framework defines the essential skills, competencies, and characteristics students should develop by the time they graduate, helping to ensure they are prepared for success in college, careers, and life.

Participants engaged in collaborative discussions and learning activities designed to strengthen implementation efforts and foster alignment across regions. The day also provided an opportunity for BOCES leaders to share insights, build connections, and explore strategies for creating learning environments that support all students.

Ulster BOCES is proud to play a leadership role in this important work and remains committed to partnering with educators statewide to support innovative, student-centered practices that prepare learners for the future.
