Enrollment is now open for Ulster BOCES Adult Career Education Center’s Surgical Technologist program, which begins in September. The program is an accredited, full-time course that will fulfill required classroom and clinical hours and prepare students to sit for their National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Certification Exams. Onsite, hands-on, real-life medical skills are obtained through clinical instruction in operating rooms at local healthcare facilities. Students will learn from an experienced faculty and progress through several levels of study.
A Surgical Technologist is an allied health professional that works closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel, delivering patient care during all aspects of a surgical procedure. To become a surgical technologist, a student will need a post-secondary non-degree award or an associate’s degree. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, most surgical technologists work in hospitals earning approximately $45,000 per year. The Bureau projects that employment of surgical technologists will grow 12% between 2016-2026.
