Ulster BOCES Adopts Student and Personal Electronic Device Policy

To support efforts to create distraction-free learning environments for all students, Ulster BOCES has adopted a new policy that limits the use of internet-enabled devices during the school day. This policy, developed in consultation with local stakeholders including faculty, staff, students, and parents, will take effect in the 2025-2026 school year.

The policy aligns with New York State’s new “Distraction-Free Schools” law, announced by Governor Kathy Hochul in June 2025. Under this law, New York became the largest state in the country to prohibit the use of smartphones during the school day in K-12 classrooms.
