A total of 297 young professionals were recognized for their outstanding academic achievement during the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) induction ceremony, held April 16 at Ulster BOCES Career Academies at iPark 87. The inductees, from Grades 11 and 12, represent the Ellenville, Highland, Kingston, New Paltz, Onteora, Rondout Valley, Saugerties, and Wallkill school districts. They now become part of an organization whose mission is to advocate for and empower all students as they pursue the skills needed to build successful careers and contribute to the global workforce.

The purpose of the NTHS is to recognize achievement in occupational and technical education; promote the ideals of honesty, service, leadership, and skill development among America’s workforce; and encourage the practice of high standards of personal and professional conduct, as well as individual responsibility. To qualify for membership in the NTHS, students must maintain an average of 90 percent or higher, demonstrate excellent attendance, and exhibit good citizenship.

The event was divided into two sessions to accommodate the many family members and friends in attendance. The ceremony was led by Ulster BOCES NTHS officers Mia Welz (New Paltz High School, Music Production); Shyann Diaz (Ellenville Junior/Senior High School, Robotics & Advanced Manufacturing); Emma McGrath (Rondout Valley High School, Animal Science); Milly Santos Castellanos (Kingston High School, Cosmetology); Alexis Gertz (Highland High School, Criminal Justice); and Carmella DeWitt (Saugerties High School, Criminal Justice).

Each officer spoke about the “Core 4 Objectives”—career development, leadership development, service, and recognition—which serve as guiding principles for NTHS activities. They also highlighted the seven attributes of NTHS membership—skill, scholarship, leadership, honesty, responsibility, service, and citizenship—encouraging inductees to recognize how they embody these qualities.

The event concluded as students processed across the stage to the cheers and applause of the crowd. Following the ceremony, attendees and new NTHS members took photos and enjoyed cookies provided by young professionals from the Transitional Occupational Program Academy.
