July 31, 2022 by 3 PM

To be given full consideration, all application materials should be on file by the initial deadline of July 31 by 3 PM. Dr. Khoury and the New Paltz Board of Education will begin to review application folders upon receipt. (Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.) 

Mid-Late August 2022

The first round of interviews will be conducted over several evenings. This is a closed search, so interviews will be conducted by Board Members only.

September 2022

The Board will conduct final interviews with the finalists.

November 2022

The Board hopes to offer the successful candidate the position in October, with negotiations to be complete for an early October appointment.

January 1, 2023

The selected candidate begins service as the new Superintendent of Schools.

The New Paltz Board of Education is seeking an exceptional educational leader with a proven record of administrative accomplishments to lead its approximate 2,100 student PreK-12 district, which is located near the Shawangunk Mountains in the beautiful Mid-Hudson region. 


Qualifications

The successful candidate must provide evidence of outstanding leadership in teaching and learning, curriculum, advancing equity, and an ability to facilitate and lead difficult discussions related to race, religion, socio-economics, gender, and disability. Superintendent experience is preferred. They must establish a high level of internal and community trust in the school district while building a culture of strong mutual respect based on roles and responsibilities between the faculty and staff, the superintendent, and the Board of Education.

After considering a variety of factors, the New Paltz Board of Education has prioritized the following characteristics as those it seeks in its next school district leader:

  • A proven problem solver who partners with staff and the community to develop effective solutions
  • An ability to cultivate a positive school culture
  • Commitment to a whole-child approach
  • Proven success in motivating a group of professionals as an equity-centered leader
  • A contemplative, measured, and empathetic leader of unquestioned integrity
  • Evidence of improving students' academic and non-academic success

The successful candidate must hold or be eligible for New York State School District Administrator certification.

This is a Confidential Search Process

As a result, the names of all candidates will only be known by the consultant team and members of the New Paltz Board of Education. Only the successful candidate will be named publicly and only after a signed contract between the parties is completed.

The consultant will carry out the task of screening applicants and recommending a group of potential semi-finalists. Candidates must not contact board members directly. The New Paltz Board of Education will make all decisions concerning the selection process, the evaluation of candidates, and the final appointments.

CONTRACT AND SALARY INFORMATION

The New Paltz Board of Education plans to offer a three-year contract with an initial salary range of $190,000-$210,000 based on qualifications, experience, and a previous record of success. A competitive benefits package will also be included in the contract.
 
Required experience includes teaching and building-level administration. Superintendent experience is preferred.
