Ulster BOCES is inviting the community to participate in a critical conversation about the future of New York State schools during a free event on Thursday, October 10. The Blue Ribbon Commission Ambassador Program, spearheaded by the New York State Education Department, will offer educators, parents, and community members the chance to come together to engage in meaningful dialogue about the vision for transforming New York's education system.
The event will take place at the Jane Bullowa Conference Center, which is located at 175 Route 32 North in New Paltz, from 5-7 PM.

Join us for an exciting full-day seminar, Artificial Intelligence, Real Learning, where you'll explore the cutting edge of AI and its transformative potential in education. Our seminar will begin with a keynote exploring the latest AI advancements, from Large Language Models to other groundbreaking technologies, and their impact on society and the future of work, leading to a reassessment of K-12 education's goals. Through interactive breakout sessions, you'll gain hands-on experience with leading AI tools like ChatGPT and others designed for educators. We'll then delve into critical discussions on the safe and effective integration of AI into classrooms, aiming to empower students and prepare them for an AI-driven future.
Join Ulster BOCES and instructors from Our Local History for an immersive history experience tied to the New York State Social Studies Framework and the NYSED Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework. Educators will begin with a zoom in, zoom out activity that challenges assumptions about Africa and introduces the NYSED Social Studies practice of Geographic Reasoning as they explore several images that show the richness and diversity of the African continent. Black history doesn't begin with enslavement. Participants will explore a gallery walk of primary sources to discuss what enslavement was like in the Ulster County area and what folks did to resist it. This session serves not only as an opportunity to explore the rich history of our region, but also as professional learning in the use of primary source documents as a basis for inquiry and discovery.
Join us this school year to elevate your district's Tier 1 practices and establish Tier 2 structures through our three-year initiative. This four-part, in-person series, designed for district and school leaders, counselors, and related service providers, will focus on advancing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and UDL Equity for Design in Tier 1 while developing Tier 2 strategies. Teams will receive dedicated work time and support to create actionable plans.
Participants will receive Lee Ann Jung's book, Assessing Students Not Standards, and she'll join us on May 21st to connect Tier 1 and Tier 2 practices. Together, we'll strengthen our foundation for Tiers 1 and 2, setting the stage for Tier 3 in the 2025-2026 school year. District teams are welcome, even if they missed last year's Part 1.
This introductory workshop will address two key objectives: first, to identify common learning challenges associated with dyslexia and other related learning differences; and second, to equip educators with effective strategies to address these challenges in daily literacy instruction. By establishing this foundation, we aim to enhance daily teaching practices and optimize lessons for all students.
