School of Practical Nursing Now Accepting Applications for Health Occupation Classes

Enrollment is now open for Ulster BOCES Adult Career Education Center's Practical Nursing (PN) and Surgical Technologist programs, which begin in September. Both programs are accredited, full-time programs that will fulfill required classroom and clinical hours, and are designed to prepare students to sit for their board exams.

Classes are conveniently located in Lake Katrine, and clinical instruction is offered through several local hospitals, nursing care facilities, and/or doctors' offices. Students will learn from an experienced faculty and progress through several levels of study. Upon completion of the PN program, students will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination. Students in the Surgical Technologist program will be able to sit for the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Certification Exams.

According to the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, LPNs work in variety of healthcare environments such as hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, health clinics, and private physician practices and have an earning potential of $44,000 per year. The Bureau projects that employment of LPNs will grow 12 percent from 2016-2026.
