SkillsUSA Students Win Big at State Competition

Congratulations to the Ulster BOCES Career & Technical Center students who proved their cutting-edge skills in timed trade and leadership contests during the 2017 SkillsUSA State Conference held in Syracuse on April 28. The 27 Ulster BOCES students from across the region performed in a host of events ranging from competitions in public speaking, skills demonstrations, and mock job interviews.

"Students in the SkillsUSA club represent the best and brightest of the future workforce of America," says Principal Dean Lucera. "We are proud of their accomplishments at SkillsUSA, and everyday in their classrooms."

Joseph Pushman, an Motorcycle/Outdoor Power/Turf Management student from the Wallkill Central School District student, placed first in New York State in the Motorcycle Repair category. Joe's win has secured him a place in the National SkillsUSA competition to be held in Louisville, Kentucky from June 19-June 23, 2017.

In addition to Joe's NYS title, other winners include:

  • Kalina Austin, a CISCO and Rondout Valley Central School District student, placed second in the Community Service category.
  • Sebastian Dugan, a Cisco and Kingston City School District student, placed second in the Community Service category.
  • Tanvir Khan, a Pre-University/New Visions Advanced Robotics & Engineering and New Paltz Central School District student, placed second in the Robotics category.
  • Vidol McGriff, a Cisco and Ellenville Central School District student, placed second in the Community Service category.
  • Carlos Perez, a Pre-University/New Visions Advanced Robotics & Engineering and New Paltz Central School District student, placed second in the Robotics category.
  • Daniel Hoell, a Motorcycle/Outdoor Power/Turf Management and Wallkill Central School District student, placed third in the Power Equipment Technology category.
  • Moshe Katzin-Nystrom, a Cisco and New Paltz Central School District student, placed third in the Internet Working category.
  • Angelina Violante, a Culinary Arts and Wallkill Central School District student, placed third in the Cake Decorating category.
