Ulster BOCES Adult Career Education Center just launched a brand-new EKG
Technician course coming this summer. Starting on July 8, 2024, this comprehensive 50-hour
program is designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge needed for entry-
level employment in the healthcare industry as EKG technicians.
The EKG Technician course offers an in-depth curriculum covering crucial insights into the
anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, and medical terminology.
Students will also learn about the ethical and legal aspects of patient care, electrocardiography
techniques, and stress testing methodologies.
“We are excited to offer this new course as a pathway for individuals seeking to start or
advance their careers in the healthcare field,” said Michelle Combs, Student Support Services
Manager-Adult Health Occupations for Ulster BOCES Adult Career Education Center. “Our
program provides hands-on training and practical experience, ensuring that our students are well-
prepared for the workforce.”
Students will engage in practical labs to gain familiarity with EKG equipment and master
lead placement techniques by understanding the normal anatomy of the chest wall. The program
includes practice in 12-lead placement and other essential clinical procedures.
The class schedule will run from July 8 to August 20, 2024. Classes will take place in the
morning from 9:00 am to 11:30 am on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at the Ulster BOCES
Adult Career Education Center, located at 319 Broadway in Port Ewen.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the National
Workforce Career Association (NWCA) EKG Technician (CET) Exam and the National
Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified EKG Technician (CET) National examination.
