A new catalog outlining the selection of affordable and interesting courses being offered at the Ulster BOCES Adult Career Education Center this fall has been released and is available on the Ulster BOCES website at www.ulsterboces.org/adult-ed.
There are many exciting offerings to choose from, in both career and personal development, as well as for just plain curiosity. Career track classes are particularly strong this season, with an updated Electrical Apprentice program and the return of the popular Surgical Technologist course, both beginning in September. There is also a Dental Assistant course, an expanded Cosmetology program, and the addition of a new Barbering License course.
For aspiring professional chefs, BOCES has added a new Culinary Arts 300-hour intensive program, offered through the American Culinary Federation, that can help students earn a nationally-recognized Chef de Cuisine Certification, as well as a valuable ServSafe Certification and Certificate of Completion. And as always, our literacy program, which can help students learn English and/or earn a High School Equivalency Diploma, continues to be as strong as ever.
If you already have welding experience and have and have ever thought: “I wish I could make that,” or “If I had the right stuff, I could do that,” BOCES has the perfect solution. There is a project-based welding class—with projects that include, but are not limited to wine racks, fire pits, and decorative shelves. Plus, there will be a supervised welding lab, where experienced BOCES instructors can give students the tools, space, and expert advice to make all of their welding projects happen.
In addition, the delicious “Chef du Jour” cooking series continues with a few new offerings, including a class on cupcake-making, as well as classes to get you ready for those crisp autumn days and Halloween with “Spooky Sweets” and “Pumpkin Spice Everything.” To help you up your holiday baking game, try the favorite “Holiday Cookie Exchange,” or the fun new class, “Adult and Child Gingerbread Decorating,” where you and a child age 12 or up can participate in the holiday tradition of creating your very own gingerbread house and its residents!
For pet lovers, “Dog Talk 101” and “Communicating with Cats” are two brand-new classes designed to help you effectively communicate with your favorite furry friend.
Adult Education staff are available for phone or in-person registration at the following times: Mondays through Thursdays, from 9 AM to 8 PM, and Fridays from 9 AM to 3 PM. Gift certificates are available for Community Education classes, or a session at the Cosmetology Clinic. To purchase a gift certificate, please call Hannah Long at (845) 331-5050, ext. 2243. We are looking forward to another fun and productive session of learning. Be sure to be on the look-out for additional classes throughout the fall!
