The Ulster BOCES robotics classes are once again partnering with the NASA HUNCH (High Schools United with NASA to Create Hardware) program.

Students from the Robotics & Advanced Manufacturing and Pre-University/New Visions Advanced Robotics & Engineering programs will delve into this hands-on, technology-based STEM project.

The students will use advanced manufacturing techniques and mechanical engineering, including 3D computer aided design programs, precision measurement, and computerized numerical control (CNC) machining, to make base latch doors for stowage lockers that once completed will be bound for the International Space Station.

Instructor Sal Ligotino is excited for his students to have this unique experience. “It’s important for the students to see practical applications in the industry that they are here to learn about,” Ligotino says.

Pre-University/New Visions Advanced Robotics & Engineering student Benjamin Grinberg from the Onteora Central School District says he is looking forward to seeing the project progress. “I was pretty excited that NASA trusts us enough to make precision parts for the lockers,” he says.
